December 31, 2012 By Damitha Anuradha Leave a Comment

Microsoft Lync ushers in a new connected user experience transforming every communication into an interaction that is more collaborative, engaging, and accessible from anywhere. For IT, the benefits are equally powerful, with a highly secure and reliable system that works with existing tools and systems for easier management, lower cost of ownership, smoother deployment and migration, and greater choice and flexibility. You can download Microsoft Lync Server 2010 Evaluation setup from below link.

In this article I will discuss how to install and configure Enterprise Edition of Microsoft Lync Server 2010 setup. Below diagram illustrates the Lync lab setup which I am going to deploy.

I am starting this setup with Define New Front End Pool wizard. Refer below Part I and Part II articles to install Lync Server 2010 Prerequisites and setup up to this point.

Install and Configure Lync Server 2010 Step by Step – Part I

Install and Configure Lync Server 2010 Step by Step – Part II

Now I am logged in to the lync01.doitfixit.local server and Lets start the Define the Front End Pool. Enter Pool FQDN for the Enterprise Edition Front End Pool.

Select Features. I skip selecting all features and role services Since I am planning to do this in another article.

Select Collocate Mediation Server if you want to collocate mediation server on the front end server pool.

In the Define the computers in this pool window add your all lync servers which you are going to deploy. In this time I add only one server and later I will show you how to add a new Lync server in to Lync Enterprise pool.

Select Associate Server roles.

Now we have to define the SQL Store.

Log in to sql.doitfixit.local and add .NET Framework 3.5.1 Feature.

And now you can start the SQL Server installation.

Choose New installation or add features to an existing installation to create new database.

Setup support rules.

Specify a free edition or Enter the Product Key

Accept the license terms.

Select SQL Server Feature Installation.

Select Database Engine Services, Management Tools – Basic and Management Tools – Complete

Enter instance name.

In the next window you will need to assign service accounts. So log in to the Active Directory and create a service account for the SQL Service.

And I choose below settings for this service account.

Click Use the same account for all SQL Server services and choose assign the created Service account.

Add SQL Server Administrators.

Its recommend to install Database and Logs in different directories. In this Lab setup I am installing same directory.

Click Install.

Open SQL Server Configuration Manager

In the below configuration path you will find the Port for this SQL instance and you will need it if you want to add Firewall exceptions.
