Microsoft Exchange Server 2013 Prerequisites

Operating System Requirement:

Operating system (on a computer with 64bit processor)

Exchange Server 2013 doesn’t support the installation of Exchange 2013 on a computer that’s running in Windows Server Core mode. The computer must be running the full installation of Windows Server. If you want to install Exchange 2013 on a computer that’s running in Windows Server Core mode, you must convert the server to a full installation of Windows Server by doing one of the following:

• Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SP1
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter RTM or later

Operating system for Management Tools (on a computer with 64bit processor)

• Windows Server 2012 Standard or Datacenter
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard with SP1
• Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise with SP1

Active Directory Server Requirement:

Schema Master

Active Directory Forest

• Domain Functional Level: Windows Server 2003 or higher.
• Forest Functional Level: Windows Server 2003 or higher.

Verify that Domain and Forest function level of Active Directory is at least “Windows Server 2003”.

1. Open Active Directory Domains and Trust.
2. Right-Click on the name of your domain and select “Raise Domain Functional Level”.
3. Verify that it is “Windows Server 2003”. If not, raise it.

   

1. Open Active Directory Domains and Trust.
2. Right-Click on the “Active Directory Domains and Trust [Your Domain Name]” and select “Raise Forest Functional Level”.
3. Verify that it is “Widows Server 2003”. If not, raise it.

Prerequisites for Windows 2008 R2 SP1:

Before installing prerequisites make sure that you have installed Standard or Enterprise edition of Windows 2008 R2, but NOT Core, Web Server or Foundation Server editions.

1. Open Powershell (Open Powershell window with elevated rights by right-clicking it “Run as Administrator”) and import server module first with “Import-Module ServerManager” command then install/enable Operating System components as per below;

   Typical installation of Client Access and Mailbox role or Mailbox Role
   Add-WindowsFeature Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework, NET-HTTP-Activation, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Web-Server, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI

Now we are going to install Exchange 2013 with typical setup of Client Access and Mailbox Role so we’ll use first command where source of Exchange 2013 setup is available.

Install-WindowsFeature AS-HTTP-Activation, Desktop-Experience, NET-Framework-45-Features, RPC-over-HTTP-proxy, RSAT-Clustering, RSAT-Clustering-CmdInterface, Web-Mgmt-Console, WAS-Process-Model, Web-Asp-Net45, Web-Basic-Auth, Web-Client-Auth, Web-Digest-Auth, Web-Dir-Browsing, Web-Dyn-Compression, Web-Http-Errors, Web-Http-Logging, Web-Http-Redirect, Web-Http-Tracing, Web-ISAPI-Ext, Web-ISAPI-Filter, Web-Lgcy-Mgmt-Console, Web-Metabase, Web-Mgmt-Console, Web-Mgmt-Service, Web-Net-Ext45, Web-Request-Monitor, Web-Server, Web-Stat-Compression, Web-Static-Content, Web-Windows-Auth, Web-WMI, Windows-Identity-Foundation

Install the following software in the order shown

1. Microsoft Unified Communications Managed API 4.0, Core Runtime 64-bit (240.1 MB)
2. Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack 64 bit (3.9 MB)
3. Microsoft Office 2010 Filter Pack SP1 64 bit (3.5 MB)
